A Stranger Christmas – The Secondary Christmas Event

A Stranger Christmas – The Secondary Christmas Event

There is so much going going on in secondary in terms of the academics and projects that it is difficult to organise an event whereby students get to perform live in front of others. That is the reason why all efforts are focused on the end-of-year theatrical event held in June, as such a long term project allows for more rehearsal time, blah, blah, blah. Yes, we have heard this before – not enough time for fun activities or mini projects.
And so, Christmas was around the corner and, even though everyone was only thinking of the well-deserved break, experience tells us that we always start our holidays on a more positive state of mind when we hold a fun event. It only takes a few sessions in the Public Speaking class to come up with an idea for a mini sketch or skit based on any given theme, and to write a script. The chosen theme was «A Stranger Christmas», which in turn was based on the hugely successful series found on Netflix, «Stranger Things». By the way, this is a must see for all, especially for our secondary students, who will no doubt find this series totally enthralling. The eight-euro subscription fee is not a lot of money considering all the amazing content you get in English, is it?
The short event closed with the sketch «A Stranger Christmas», starring Antonio, Luis and Manny as three fun loving kids on a ski trip; Juan Antonio as a kid with mental powers; Alicia as a school monitor; Mike as a monster/alien; Marta as the presenter/stage assistant, and finally the best ‘hands’ in a little-people sketch, Marcos, Beatriz, Javier, Itziar and Patrick.
As a final word, I would like to say that I cannot imagine a Public Speaking event without the collaboration of the multi-talented Antonio and Luis. They are amazing professionals with a touch of wackiness, who always spice up any sketch. And let’s not forget Juan Antonio, who never thinks twice about helping out in a sketch which requires the acting skills of a true natural talent like himself. What a pleasure it is to be surrounded by such incredible people, and by people I mean all who took part on the day, including the parents.
