On March 14th, International Mathematics Day was celebrated and for this reason, during the past week, we celebrated Mathematics Week at school.

From the different subjects at all stages, emphasis has been placed on the relationship that Mathematics has with all fields of knowledge. It seems important to us that our students at school value the need for mathematical knowledge and its connection with other areas, and especially with situations of daily life. This approach is the one they work with on a daily basis at school, but during the past week we further promoted this interdisciplinary relationship. In this sense, we comment on some examples of the work carried out by our students during Mathematics Week:

In Physical Education they worked on numbers and operations with traditional games, the calculation of percentages and frequencies, units of measurement, and geometry.

In the subjects of Social Science and History and Geography, they worked on numbers in time lines, equivalences of time units, demographic analysis, data interpretation, tables and graphs

In the subjects of Language and Literature, mathematics also made it possible to measure verses, count syllables, analyze biographical data…

In Physics and Chemistry, Biology, Technology and Technical Drawing and Art, the link with Mathematics has always been clearer and more common: formulas, calculations, relationships, representations, properties, adjustment of reactions, proportionality…

In this line of work, secondary school students prepared workshops to celebrate at the Maths and Sciences event in Moralzarzal, (postponed to June 11). In addition, these workshops were taught by Secondary students to Primary students during the school day. In this sense, during the past week the following sessions took place. The workshops were on very varied topics, and with explanations appropriate to the ages of the participants: geometry, numbers, fractals, constructions, history, fractions, symmetries…

* Wednesday, March 16: workshops prepared by the students of 1st and 2nd of Secondary, in their classrooms, in which the students of 3rd and 4th of Primary participated.

* Thursday, March 17: workshops prepared by the 3rd and 4th grade students in their classrooms, in which the 5th and 6th grade students participated.

* With the groups of 1st and 2nd grade of Primary, the workshops were organized in their own classrooms, with some secondary school students, at times set with the coordinators of both stages.

Some sessions of learning and coexistence between stages resulted, in which we all enjoyed working and playing with mathematics in different ways. We were delighted to see the involvement, dedication and enjoyment with which the Secondary students prepared and shared the activities presented with their Primary classmates.
